Week 4, January 1998
Greensboro Coliseum (Greensboro, North Carolina)
ATT: 30,000
PPV BUY: 2.04
Announce Team: Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes & Bobby "The Brain" Heenan

Quote:

.....it's that time again.....it's Sunday Night, we're live on Pay Per View and we open up straight at the announce desk, where Tony Schiavone is alongside Bobby Heenan and Dusty Rhodes.....and Tony Schiavone is in full hype mode.....

".....Ladies and Gentlemen, we welcome you to the night where scores will be settled.....we welcome you to the night when former friends collide......we welcome you to the night that nations go to war.....we welcome you to the night that the Blade Warriors explode.....it's Randy Savage vs. Shawn Michaels.....it's Sting vs. The Warrior.....it's a night you won't forget......because tonight, we welcome you.....to WCW SuperBrawl VIII....."

.....the three men run down all the action that we’re going to see tonight, from the Team USA vs. The Sovereignty (which actually makes up TWO bouts tonight) with Dusty saying that he for one hopes that those All-American Boys give those Can-UK’s a good old taste of Americana tonight.....Bobby Heenan on the other hand isn’t feeling quite so patriotic.....

”.....I mean, I’m not just The Brain you know.....I’ve MET Her Majesty The Queen and she was quite complimentary.....so complimentary in fact that well, let’s just say that you can call me SIR Brain of Heenan.....”

“.....complimentary?.....what’chu talking about ‘complimentary’ Bobby Heenan? Ain’t no one EVA’ been complimentary about you baby.....”

.....Bobby tells Dusty to have a little bit more respect, he can have the queen on the telephone in no time, and Dusty Rhodes might find himself doing some ‘Hard Times’ in the Tower of London.....

.....Schiavone cuts off the bickering, telling us that on top of all that, we also have the United States Championship being defended (as Eddie Guerrero takes on JPL) the Forgotten putting the Tag Team Titles up against the Nasty Boys.....not to mention the Cruiserweight Title being on the line when Juventud Guerrera challenges Hayabusa.....

”.....and outside of our Championship bouts fans we have the battle of the big men.....giant vs giant, as Sid Vicious meets THE Giant.....the First Family in action.....and finally we have.....”

”.....:::::!!!!!IF YA SMELLLLLLLLL......WHAT THE ROCK.....IS......COOKING!!!!!:::::......”

.....and finally (or should that be FIRSTLY) we have The Rock out for revenge against the man who cost him the United States Championship last month.....Curt Hennig.....and that match, is next.....

Rating: N/A

Quote:

.....it’s perhaps a sign of quite how stacked the top end of the WCW roster is, when one of the most over gentlemen in the company (The Rock) is jerking the curtain.....but that’s exactly what he’s doing here, as he opens up the eighth annual SuperBrawl against Curt Hennig, in a match that many think Hennig has been trying to avoid.....

.....whether he HAS been trying to avoid it or not is moot about now, because the match is happening and after Curt cost the Great One the opportunity to become the United States Champion (and then spent the subsequent weeks running from him) Rocky is VERY eager to get his hands on his opponent.....

.....Rocky starts out strong and as Hennig (repeatedly) tries to escape from the clutches of his opponent he’s bumping all over the place.....and honestly, who bumps better than Curt Hennig? Go ahead, I’ll wait while you try and think of someone not called Shawn Michaels.....

.....anyway, while you’re doing that I’ll just continue with the match write up, because Rocky ain’t waiting for no one.....

.....Curt finally catches a breather, but he has to earn it, as a big right hand by Rocky sends him sailing over the top rope and down to the floor, where he at least gets a brief reprise.....it is only brief though, with The Rock heading straight outside to meet him.....he pummels Curt all over the ringside area before finally ramming Hennig’s head into the post so hard that Curt turns inside out right out there on the floor.....

.....I think Hennig would have been happy to take a count-out loss there, but Rocky isn’t letting him off that easily, rolling his opponent back into the ring.....he perhaps should have taken that count-out win though, because as he rolls into the ring after him he’s met with a knee drop to the back of the head that finally slows him down enough for Hennig to take control of the contest.....

.....Curt Hennig has done a lot of running away from the Rock as of late, but the times he hasn’t been running (usually after a cheap shot) he’s taken great pleasure in inflicting serious punishment onto the self proclaimed people’s champion.....he viciously assaulted him following his loss to Eddie Guerrero a few weeks back (a loss that actually came courtesy of Hennig) and he was especially effective with a steel chair in hand on a recent episode of WCW Thunder.....so it’s perhaps no surprise that he appears to be enjoying this extended heat spot greatly.....

.....all of Curt’s ‘perfect’ cockiness returns as he arrogantly struts around the ring, nonchalantly batting his opponents about the back of the head with slaps, before deciding to finish him off once and for all with that Hennig-Plex.....he hooks Rocky into position, but before he can execute the move Rocky wriggles free and sends Curt into the ropes, driving him hard to the mat with a spinebuster on the return.....

.....from there, The Rock begins to fight his way back into this.....he may be fully focused on Curt Hennig right now, but he must have one eye firmly fixed on Jean Paul Levesque too, with the pair exchanging insults for weeks now.....although JPL hasn’t been shy about getting others to do his dirty work for him, often enlisting the Totally Awesome Trinity to do a lot of the heavy lifting for him.....

.....that being said, if Rocky DOES have his sights set on Levesque, he’s going to want to be heading into any potential match between the two of them with a victory here.....

.....he continues to fight his way back into the match, mounting more and more of an offence as the bout goes on.....you can see the confidence slipping away from Hennig, who (after controlling a good portion of the action) reverts to attempting to keep as far away from The Rock as possible.....Rocky isn’t going to give him the chance to run though, finally (and decisively) putting Curt away right in the middle of the ring following a Rock Bottom.....

Winner: The Rock
Rating: A

Quote:

.....we leave The Rock to celebrate in front of his people as we go to the back, where a rather large black limousine is pulling into the parking lot.....

.....we don’t have to wait long to discover its passengers either, because it’s barely come to a halt before the door swings open and The Macho Man comes flying furiously out, followed by the rest of the Titans of Wrestling.....

.....well, some of them anyway.....

.....Macho is there, as is The Warrior, Buff Bagwell and Vinnie Ru.....who’s NOT there though, is the Totally Awesome Trinity, who were fairly clear this past Thursday on Thunder when they told Buff Bagwell that they wouldn’t be fighting the Titans battles for them this evening.....

.....that perhaps explains Savage’s less than positive demeanour, as the camera picks up his rantings about wanting to know where the Trinity are, even catching him telling Buff that he had ”one job to do, yeah.....didn’t do it” as the group storm towards the entrance of the building.....

.....they pass by the camera man (who’s doing his best to remain inconspicuous) and Macho grabs at him, dragging him closer so that he can address the Trinity directly.....he stares down the lens, telling Copeland, Cage and Traylor that they’d better get their butt’s into gear and quickly if they know what’s good for them, before shoving the backstage worker to one side and continuing into the arena.....

Rating: B+

Quote:

.....our second match of the evening is our first title match of the evening.....our Cruiserweight Title match, which sees James Vandenberg’s Hayabusa put the gold on the line against the Youth Warrior, Juventud Guerrera.....

.....this was a great match from an in ring perspective.....sure it didn’t receive quite the same reaction as our previous match, but the action was very good.....

.....both of these men know how to fly and both of these men are extremely fast, with Hayabusa in particular seemingly having little regard for his own safety as he throws caution to the wind.....the death defying actions of our Cruiserweight Champion would perhaps have garnered him some crowd support in any normal circumstances, however, the fact that he aligns himself with James Vandenberg (coupled with the fact that he’s accompanied by both Jinsei Shinzaki AND Mortis) means that he is most certainly the heel in this contest.....

.....as for James Vandenberg, he’s worked too long and too hard to finally capture that Cruiserweight Title, so he’s not about to give it up without a fight.....

.....or fairly.....

.....so despite Juvi coming close on numerous occasions, it was the men on the outside that were the difference makers.....and as Guerrera goes for that Juvi Driver, Vandenberg distracts the official while Mortis slides into the ring to clock the challenger in the back of the head with his Jester Cane, leaving Hayabusa to finish up the match with a Phoenix Splash.....

Winner: ....and Still WCW Cruiserweight Champion.....Hayabusa.....
Rating: C+

Quote:

.....from there we go to a quick hype package, one that features the rise (and recent dominance) of Kevin Sullivan, Big Van Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow.....the WCW Tag Team Champions.....The Forgotten.....

.....it’s bookended by clips of first the initial forming of the group and finally their Championship win last month, with shots of them absolutely dominating and decimating people along the way....shots of the Totally Awesome Trinity deliberately NOT getting involved in the Forgotten’s business, shots of the Public Enemy, Disco Inferno and Alex Wright getting crushed.....and finally shots of our Challengers this evening (The Nasty Boys) delivering a steel chair assisted attack on our champions.....

.....it’s difficult to hype ANYONE up for a Nasty Boys match in 1998.....but we tried.....give us a break.....

.....let’s go to the match.....

Rating: B+

Quote:

.....seven or eight years ago, this would have been one hell of a match.....yeah, you can scoff all you like, but during their initial run with WCW back in 1990 the Nasty Boys put on some damn fine brawls with the Steiner Brothers, including arguably the match of the night at that years Halloween Havoc.....

.....Father Time hasn’t been kind to Knobbs and Sags, but this was still a decent match.....decent because (considering the number of matches we DO have tonight) it didn’t go long.....in fact, this match and our previous match combined lasted less time than our opening contest.....

.....what this was was a full blown, balls out brawl.....it was in the ring, out the ring, up the aisle and then back in the ring again.....the Nasty’s got their shots in, but it was nowhere near enough to put down a p!ssed off Forgotten, who (still furious at the recent actions of Shawn Michaels and Jean Paul Levesque) put an end to their challengers in about six minutes, with Vader crushing the spirit out of Sags body with a big Vader Bomb.....

Winner(s): ....and Still WCW Tag Team Champions.....The Forgotten.....
Rating: B+

Quote:

.....I don’t know who Mean Gene ticked off, but clearly someone.....because he has the unenviable task of coming out here to get word from the Forgotten.....

”.....and Kevin Sullivan, while no one can argue the result here tonight, it’s not been the best of weeks for your men.....first losing to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage on Nitro, before Bam Bam Bigelow was defeated by Shawn Michaels this past Thursday on Thunder.....your thoughts?.....”

.....Sullivan tells Gene to (first of all) mind his tone when addressing the Forgotten, before saying that wins and losses are immaterial in the grander scheme of things.....what matters is how much destruction the Forgotten can leave in their wake and by his reckoning that’s. a lot.....

”.....and it’s only just beginning.....this right here tonight is a fine example of what happens when someone tries to take something that belongs to us.....that someone leaves the arena on a stretcher, and they don’t come back.....”

.....Sully says that it doesn’t matter WHO steps up to the challenge of his Forgotten, they will NEVER back down from anyone or anything.....but clearly Shawn Michaels, Jean Paul Levesque and the Terrified Trio have realised that normal men just don’t measure up to the Forgotten.....Copeland and Cage can’t beat the Forgotten without help.....the great Shawn Michaels can’t beat Bam Bam Bigelow without help.....NO ONE can match what the Forgotten have.....

”.....but Mean Gene, anyone that doubts my words is welcome to try and prove me wrong.....the Forgotten will take on ANYONE.....any time, any where, any how, it doesn’t matter to us.....if The Road Warriors want a shot at these titles, step up.....Mike Awesome and Gideon Cain, sign on the dotted line.....the Blue Bloods? The Public Enemy? The Pitbulls?.....if Adam Copeland and Christian Cage want to try their luck again, we’re not hard to find.....you can consider that an open invitation Mean Gene.....an open invitation to ANY team in the back.....but if that is an invitation, then this is a plea.....

.....Shawn Michaels.....Jean Paul Levesque.....please.....PLEASE take us up on that offer.....Shawn Michaels, JPL.....you run your mouths like you’re seven feet tall.....five hundred pounds.....but believe me, when it comes to Big Van Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow, you just don’t measure up.....sign on the line.....sign for the match.....sign up.....and sign....your.....death warrants.....”

.....sounds like the Forgotten haven’t ‘forgotten’ about Michaels, Levesque OR the Totally Awesome Trinity.....

.....speaking of the Totally Awesome Trinity.....

Rating: A

.....we head backstage, where Copeland, Cage and Traylor are STILL nowhere to be seen.....and the Macho Man is NOT happy about that.....no not at all.....

.....he’s currently tossing stuff about the room screaming at Russo and Bagwell that he told them to be here.....he told Buff to tell them to be here, they’re not here, they’re somewhere else, where are they because they’re not here.....

.....Russo and Bagwell do their best to calm Randy down (not Warrior, he doesn’t pay any mind to the situation.....in fact I don’t think he’s even noticed) but it’s not working.....tonight is a big night (yeah) with big implications (yeah) and attendance is mandatory (dig it?) so Buff gets the order.....

”.....find them.....call them, telephone, telegram, carrier pigeon, yeah, I don’t care.....just find them.....find them, get them, bring them here to me so that we can do the thing that we’re here to do.....

.....NOW.....”

.....now indeed.....Buff Bagwell has a match of his own to prepare for, but he’s had his orders.....so he quickly bolts from the room on a Totally Awesome ‘Seek and Return’ mission, leaving Savage to remark to Russo that for “Titan’s”, they’re looking a little light right about now.....

.....maybe he needs to do something about that.....

.....quite what Savage means by that is anyone’s guess.....but since we’re already in the back, we may as well go to......

Rating: B+

Quote:

.....Mike Tenay.....

.....who’s standing by backstage with the man (nay, giant) who will be competing next.....the mammoth, Sid Vicious.....

.....Tenay says that Sid and The Giant have been circling each other for months now, ever since Sid’s debut back at November’s Mayhem event.....that circling has got increasingly more heated in recent weeks, eventually becoming physical.....which brings us to tonight.....

”.....because tonight, we will find out who the true giant in WCW is.....Sid Vicious? Or the man that’s so confident that he owns the title that he uses it for his own ring name.....The Giant.....”

.....Sid lets out a maniacal laugh at that statement, telling Mike Tenay that the only thing the so-called Giant should be confident in, is that Sid Vicious is about to show him that no matter HOW big he is, he will only ever be HALF the man that Sid Vicious is.....

”.....because Giant.....tonight is the night that you find out that just being a big boy isn’t going to be enough if you can’t back it up.....you’ve had two years of walking around here as the ONLY giant in WCW, but all that came crashing down when Sid Vicious walked through that door.....

.....you would have done well to stay outta my way boy, but for as big as you are, you’re obviously not as smart.....because you didn’t just wake a sleeping giant.....you woke the master.....and ruler.....of the world.....”

.....this next match is going to be terrible.....you know that right?.....

.....this promo wasn’t great either.....

.....shall we just get it over with?.....

Rating: A

Quote:

.....it was so terrible.....

.....ok, I’m being over dramatic.....if you were the type of person who say, writes a certain newsletter, or gives matches star ratings, I’m sure this match would get something along the lines of negative two stars.....

.....but.....

.....the crowd were actually into it, and OBVIOUSLY weren’t expecting a technical masterclass.....they were expecting two huge men to punch, kick and headbutt the crap out of each other.....they wanted the spectacle of two seven footers going to war, that’s what they got, and the crowd responded appropriately.....

.....much like our last two matches, this was never destined to go long.....although, had this only been an eight match card this STILL wouldn’t have gone long, purely because of the people involved to begin with.....

.....Sid calls himself the master and ruler of the world.....unfortunately for our official he’s got a hell of a clothesline on him too.....because as Sid tries to nail the Giant, the Big Man (again) showcases his surprising agility, dropping to the mat to avoid the shot, leaving the official to eat the move.....

.....the ref goes down and Sid briefly checks on him, but he clearly senses the oncoming Giant, because he turns and gets that Big Boot up, right into the jaw of the oncoming Giant.....and then it looks like he’s about to try the impossible.....

.....he’s going to try and Powerbomb.....

.....or he was.....

.....before the Macho Man randomly comes flying out of nowhere with a double ax to the back of Sid’s head.....

.....Sid drops to a knee (releasing The Giant in the process) and stays there as Savage unleashes a lightning quick flurry of blows (again) to the back of Vicious’ head.....

.....not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, Giant quickly takes advantage of the dazed and confused Sid, wrapping a hand around his throat and driving him to the mat with a choke slam, while Savage revives the official.....

.....and three seconds later, the Giant can call himself THE giant in WCW.....even if the win was anything but clean.....

Winner: The Giant
Rating: B

Quote:

.....while it doesn’t look as though the Giant was aware that Randy Savage was going to involve himself in this match, he doesn’t look especially upset by the helping hand he just received.....

.....this isn’t the first time that the Giant and the Titans of Wrestling have worked together either.....in fact, the big man has been offered Titan status on a number of occasions but has always (rather politely) turned it down.....after his earlier comments to Vince Russo though, it looks like Savage is going to have another go at recruiting what would be the Titans biggest member.....

.....Savage tells Giant that he understands he wants to go it alone.....respects it even.....but the fact of the matter is that the landscape has changed around here......alliances are being formed, lines drawn in the sand......this isn’t about WCW vs. The Titans of Wrestling anymore.....this isn’t even about WCW AND the Titans of Wrestling vs. Shawn Michaels and JPL.....it’s not Team USA vs. The Sovereignty.....this is about knowing that (no matter how big you are) someone ALWAYS has your back.....

.....Macho hands Giant a (Triple XL) Titans shirt, telling him that he doesn’t have to make his decision now.....or even tonight.....but he SHOULD make a decision.....the smart decision.....the RIGHT decision.....

....and quickly.....

.....and just like that, Randy Savage leaves again.....and shortly thereafter, Giant leaves too......

.....and he’s still holding that Titan shirt when he goes.....so that’s obviously not an instant no.....

.....I guess time will tell what decision he makes.....

.....let’s go to the back.....

Rating: B+

.....where Mean Gene is standing by with the members Team USA.....we’ve got The Patriot, Lex Luger, Diamond Dallas Page (with Kimberly) Hacksaw Jim Duggan and The Road Warriors.....that’s a whole lot of Red, White and Blue.....

.....Gene says that tonight, these men can shut the mouths of the entire collective Sovereignty in just two matches.....the ten man tag team match (up next) and when The Patriot goes one on one with Lance Storm later this evening, something that the Patriot is confident is going to happen.....

”.....because Lance Storm, you and your little Sovereignty are about to learn the good old fashioned way.....you’re here earning your living in the good old U S of A.....and when it comes to America, the greatest country in the world, there’s two things you can do.....love it.....or leave it.....and Lance Storm, if you don’t love it then maybe I’ll kick your butt all the way back to Canada.....”

.....Luger and Hacksaw basically repeat Patriot’s words, while Hawk and Animal also shout out something equally patriotic (although a little more violent) while DDP, he has something to say to another Canadian all together.....

”.....and that’s my former partner, Chris Benoit.....Chris, you need to watch these matches real closely, because I know that deep down, no matter what trash Lance Storm and his Jack-Off’s are feeding you, you know that when it gets down to it, they’ll stab you, me and anyone else in the back just to get what they want.....and that ain’t because they’re Canadian.....that ain’t because they’re British.....that’s because they’re scumbags, and you KNOW they’re scumbags.....”

.....Dallas says that he and Benoit have had their.....differences.....as of late, but he knows they can put all that behind them and get back on the same page.....just watch the matches tonight, and see who TRULY fights with pride.....

.....close this crappy promo out Hacksaw.....

”......!!!!HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!.....”

Rating: B+

Quote:

.....which takes us nicely to our HUGE tag team match, as five members of Team USA face off against five members of the Sovereignty.....

.....this feud all started with Hacksaw Jim Duggan, so it’s only fitting that this MATCH starts with Jim Duggan too.....chasing the members of the Sovereignty around with that 2x4, as one by one they ran from Hacksaw’s wood and one by one they run straight into the waiting fists of the other members of Team USA.....

.....this match wasn’t exactly a match of the night contender, but much as with the Giant/Sid match earlier, the (ever patriotic) crowd had a great time chanting USA as the heels got their comeuppance.....

.....since the crowd IS so patriotic, it only makes sense to have Hacksaw work the face in peril role.....especially since outside of Lord Steven, the majority of the heel contingent are midcarders at best, while outside of Duggan, the majority of the face side are main eventers.....

.....obviously that makes for some pretty overwhelming odds.....and while Steven Regal has been racking up some pretty impressive wins as of late (including victories over DDP, Chris Benoit AND the Road Warriors) even HE was going to be hard pushed to make the difference here.....and while Team USA was always going to come out on top, Regal wasn’t going to be the one to take the fall.....

.....the match eventually broke down to your usual brawl, which saw Page drop Eaton with the Diamond Cutter, Hacksaw clock Regal between the eyes with that 2x4 (behind the officials back) on the outside, as Luger first sends Rougeau crashing through the ropes with a running forearm, before Racking the big man Oulette.....

.....which just left The Duke as easy pickings for the Road Warriors to turn inside out with a Doomsday Device for the one, two, three.....

.....Hooooooooooooo.....

.....we leave Team USA to celebrate in the ring, as we head backstage where we see Lance Storm standing beside Chris Benoit and a monitor.....

.....clearly the pair had just been watching our previous match, because Lance Storm is telling Benoit that for all Dallas Page’s words of well intention, once again it wasn’t the Sovereignty that resorted to underhand tactics.....it wasn’t the Sovereignty that bought inanimate objects to the ring to be used as weapons.....it wasn’t the Sovereignty that just nailed a member of Team USA with a wooden 2x4.....

”.....no, as usual though, that Neanderthal Jim Duggan took it upon himself to assault His Lordship with a weapon, and because its ‘loveable old Jim’ no one bats an eye.....that’s the hypocrisy of these American people and these American fans.....because if that had been a member of the Sovereignty everyone would have been up in arms, while Tony Schiavone would be out there talking about the biggest miscarriage of justice in history......but no, instead he’s out there on commentary laughing it up likes it’s all good fun.....well you Chris, you know as well as I do.....losing a match is NEVER a laughing matter.....but then, as Canadians, we just take winning a little bit more serious now don’t we.....”

.....we might, but Chris Benoit doesn’t actually get chance to answer that one before Buff Bagwell comes walking into shot.....

.....Bagwell got sent on a recon mission by the Macho Man.....one simple task.....find the Totally Awesome Trinity.....and I don’t think he’s been successful thus far.....

.....Storm is just in the process of telling Benoit to be sure to watch HIS match (against the Patriot) to see how a true sportsman operates, when Bagwell rudely interrupts them, asking if they have seen Copeland, Cage or Traylor.....

.....Benoit might be somewhat pre-occupied with his own problems and conundrums right now, but he’s certainly had his fair share of problems with the Titans of Wrestling in the past, so he takes great pleasure in telling Buff that no, no he hasn’t seen the Trinity anywhere.....so why doesn’t he go running back to the Macho Man like a good little lap dog and tell him that he’s failed.....again.....

.....Bagwell isn’t happy about the blatant disrespect that Benoit is throwing his way, but then as Buff’s music can be heard beginning to play in the arena, The Crippler tells him that running back to Savage might have to wait.....

”.....because it sounds like your match is just about to start.....good luck with that one considering your little buddies aren’t here to back you up.....”

.....Bagwell storms off in the direction of the arena, telling Benoit (who’s stood smiling with that toothless grin) that he wants to watch his mouth.....

”.....it won’t take me long to beat this skirt wearing sissy.....AGAIN.....maybe when I’m done I’ll come back here and knock another tooth outta your stupid mouth.....”

.....I hate to break it to you Buff, but Benoit doesn’t look overly concerned.....maybe you should worry about your opponent tonight instead.....no one major, it’s only Rowdy Roddy Piper after all.....

.....a few months ago Buff Bagwell picked up what was quite possibly the biggest victory of his career when he defeated Roddy Piper as Starrcade.....problem with that was twofold.....one, the match was unsanctioned, so technically as far as WCW is concerned, the win never happened.....and two, Roddy Piper could barely walk during that “match” let alone wrestle following a series of brutal attacks at the hands of the Titans of Wrestling left the man hobbled.....

.....Buff has the chance here to wipe all that away and get an honest to goodness win over the Hot Rod, in an officially sanctioned WCW match.....again though, there’s two problems there.....Piper is fully fit, has two legs, is ready to fight and is thoroughly focused on giving Buff a thrashing, while the other problem is that Bagwell doesn’t seem particularly focused on this match.....

.....instead of preparing to meet the man that went toe to toe with Hulk Hogan during the Rock n Wrestling era (and co-headlined Wrestlemania I) Buff has spent all his time this evening on a wild goose chase, chasing after Titans that don’t appear to be there this evening.....

.....Piper uses that to his advantage in the opening portions of the match and for a face, we all know that the Hot Rod loves to bend the rules.....which is why a distracted and flustered Buff is on the receiving end of a number of bites, pokes to the eyes and hair pulls, why just serves to frustrate Bagwell even further.....

.....it’s fair to say that a good portion of Bagwell’s gameplay here tonight may well have centred around a helping hand (or three) from the Totally Awesome Trinity.....obviously that’s not happening now, but while Buff might not be at the level of a Randy Savage or a Warrior, but he IS a member of the Titans of Wrestling and has been for some time now.....so once he finally gets his head into the match he’s perfectly capable of turning the tides on his own ability.....

.....the longer he maintains control of the match, the more confident he becomes too.....he’s not what you would call a technician but he’s savvy enough to realise that focusing his attack on the leg of Piper is his best chance of winning, after all, Roddy might be coming into this one fully fit, but a fully fit leg of Roddy Piper is probably still only operating at 80% after the years of wear and tear and surgeries they have endured.....Bagwell isn’t about to start stretching and contorting the limb with a myriad of submission holds, but he is certainly proficient enough to stomp and kick at it.....

.....he should have perhaps learnt a submission hold or two though.....because despite his best efforts, Piper won’t stay down.....although he does DROP down.....down and out of the way as Buff goes for that Blockbuster attempt, leaving Bagwell to eat nothing but canvas.....

.....we have the obligatory ten count (which both men manage to beat by 9) before Piper begins firing right hands at the Titan star, leading to the commentary team (particularly Tony) reminding us of Roddy’s amateur boxing background.....

.....Buff tries to fight back but Roddy has had to listen to the brash Titan crowing about holding a victory over the Hot Rod for months now and he is clearly eager to avenge that loss.....Bagwell does his best to escape the onslaught, but as he tries to climb through the ropes to bail, Piper grabs him by the back of the tights and drags him back to the centre of the ring.....

.....where he locks on the sleeper hold.....

.....and with no Trinity in sight to run interference, Bagwell fades and fades.....and fades some more.....until finally the official raises (and drops) the arm three times, before calling for the bell.....

.....this one is over.....Piper wins.....and Bagwell really, REALLY could have done with a Totally Awesome helping hand from the Totally Awesome Trinity.....

.....we leave Piper celebrating a well deserved victory and head to the back, where Eric Bischoff is sat at a desk in a makeshift office, huddled over a stack of paperwork.....

.....and he WAS deep in concentration.....

.....at least until the two dancing fools, Alex Wright and the Disco Inferno came jiving into the room.....

.....Bischoff let’s out a sigh when he looks up and realises who his new arrivals are, before asking the pair what they want because he’s busy.....

.....Disco says that he knows he’s busy.....and he knows what with.....

”.....you’re drawing up the brackets for the TV Title tournament.....am I right? I’m right aren’t I? Right?.....”

.....Bischoff sighs again, before telling Disco that yes, he’s right.....Disco let’s out a little fist pump (as Alex dances to that imaginary music behind him) and tries to peek at the paperwork, but Eric quickly turns the paperwork over, telling him that neither the brackets nor the participants have been finalised yet, but he’s been keeping a very close eye on the winners and losers tonight and he’s getting closer.....

.....Disco scoffs at that, telling Bischoff that he’s got two of the participants right here, right now.....

”.....Alex Wright and The Disco Inferno.....your brand new Television Champion is already in this room, you just don’t know it yet.....”

.....Alex pauses his dancing just long enough to tell Bischoff that he agrees with his Disco Dancing colleague.....and after the disrespect shown to them a few weeks back when Eric was looking for contenders to the tag team titles, he owes them one.....

”.....excuse me? I ‘owe’ you one?.....I’m sorry but it doesn’t work like that.....you see, we (the committee) had a Television Champion that we were extremely happy with.....a Champion that we were proud to see holding that title.....a champion that was an undefeated winning machine by the name of Bill Goldberg.....we want that again, so I’m afraid that no one is getting entered into this tournament as a favour.....or because someone’s feelings were hurt.....

.....now you two MIGHT be entered into that tournament.....but then again, you might not.....you’ll find out the names of the participants at the same time that everyone else finds out the names of the participants.....tomorrow night.....on Nitro.....until then I’m afraid you’ll just have to wait.....but while you’re waiting, ask yourselves this.....are you on the same calibre as a Bill Goldberg? A Lance Storm? A Steven Regal? Ricky Steamboat? You know the Giant held this title right? Are you on the same level as a Giant?.....”

.....I’m fairly sure Bischoff was being flippant.....because clearly our dancing heroes are not.....but the sarcasm goes right over the head of Disco (and Wright) who clearly think that Eric is describing them to a tee, high giving each other and telling themselves that they are a shoe in, before dancing their way back out of the room again, clearly under the impression that they’re in the tournament.....

.....Bischoff is just glad to see the back of the duo, muttering something about “dancing idiots” before looking over towards his monitor at the sound of Lance Storm’s music beginning to play.....

.....it’s Storm going up against the Patriot next.....and Eric clearly has plans to potentially include ONE of these men in that Television Title Tournament.....

.....WHICH one, we will have to wait for tomorrow to find out.....

.....let’s get to the match.....

.....and after watching the rest of Team USA come out victorious over the Sovereignty earlier this evening The Patriot has got to be fancying his chances against Lance Storm.....

.....this is The Patriot’s first outing on Pay Per View for WCW since the 1994 Halloween Havoc.....granted The Patriot stuck around until mid-95, but he never made it to the ‘Pay’ portion of any of the shows.....he’s not been back in World Championship Wrestling long, but he’s jumped straight into the middle of a semi well established feud and he’s already picked up some important victories along the way - including one over the British face of the Sovereignty, Lord Steven Regal.....

.....Storm on the other hand has finally found his niche here in WCW after arriving some time back now following his short stint in the WWF.....Storm and Regal even feuded briefly over the (currently vacant) Television Championship, but they appear to have put all past issues behind them for the common good and his involvement in the Sovereignty has certainly breathed a bit of life into Lance Storm’s (otherwise bland) character.....

.....clearly both men desperately want the victory here.....Patriot for the clean sweep, Storm to avoid a clean sweep AND to save face on what could be an embarrassing night for the Sovereignty.....

.....it makes for a good match too.....

.....both men come out waving their respective flags, with the poor Maple Leaf getting greeted by jeers from this American crowd.....not that Lance Storm cares, he’s made his distain for the American fans crystal clear.....although considering the fact that we saw a foreign object utilised in our earlier ten man tag match the official should probably have removed those flags from ringside.....

.....Lance Storm might have been quick to criticise Jim Duggan’s earlier actions, but after the two men collided with the official, Storm saw an opportunity and he took it.....he took that Red, White and Blue flag that the Patriot bought to ringside and he ran through his opponent, using the wooden pole to deliver a clothesline type manoeuvre, before snapping it over the back of Patriot’s head.....

.....the official comes back to life just as Storm makes the cover and three seconds later it’s a case of “Oh, say can you see.” Lance Storm getting his hand raised.....

”.....thats a crock of you know what.....Lance Storm just showed the world what a scumbag he is and maybe now you’ll open your eyes to what your little new found friend is REALLY like.....”

.....Benoit says that it’s not a case of his “friend”.....this is professional wrestling, he doesn’t have ANY friends......but as for what Lance Storm ‘REALLY’ is......

”.....what he REALLY is - after watching YOUR ‘friend’ Jim Duggan bounce that 2x4 off the head of Steven Regal - is a man who’s doing unto others before they do unto him.....”

.....Benoit says that he's been watching the Sovereignty for weeks.....he’s WRESTLED them too.....and this was the first time he’s seen them so much as bend the rules, while Team USA haven’t been shy about doing whatever it takes.....

”.....so don’t come in here preaching to ME about cheating.....because honestly, it smells like hypocrisy to me.....”

.....they say that the truth hurts.....well those words certainly stung Page, who takes it upon himself to shove Benoit in the chest as (much as it has done on WCW tv) a small scale brawl breaks out between these former partners, with backstage workers and personnel working to separate them.....

.....let’s leave them to it.....

.....and head over to something slightly more sophisticated.....

.....I say slightly, because we’re going over to Mike Tenay who is with The Rock......and while Rocky is certainly entertaining, he’s never been accused of being particularly sophisticated.....

.....The Great One is showered and changed following his opening match victory, swapping his wrestling gear for designer sunglasses and an expensive looking silk shirt, and it’s apparent by his demeanour that he’s feeling pretty good about now.....

”.....because The Rock did exactly what the Rock said he would do.....he came out to SuperBrawl and he electrified.....he electrified and he entertained the millions (and millions) of the Rocks fans before giving Curt Henning an absolutely perfect ass whooping.....

.....and when the Rock was done with that, he went to the back, he climbed into the People’s shower, soaped up the People’s strudel, rinsed off the People’s pecs.....the Rock applied a little bit of the People’s scent.....not too much, just a little bit.....The Rock smells good Mike Tenay, go ahead and smell The Rock.....

.....DON’T SMELL THE ROCK MIKE TENAY, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU.....

.....The Rock did all that, put on a thousand dollar silk shirt and now he’s here.....ready to watch Eddie Guerrero and Jipple the Nipple slap the ugly off each other for the United States Championship.....”

.....Rocky says that he can’t think of a better way to spend the rest of his evening, than to watch those two jabronies try to lay the smack down on each other.....Rocky doesn’t like either man, so he could care less who wins, but whoever DOES win has a date with the Rock lined up.....but in saying that, he does kind of hope that it’s Eddie Guerrero that walks out with the gold, because the day they have to announce that Jipple, the Hairy Left Nipple is the US Champion, is the day they may as well throw that gold belt straight in the trash, because you’ll NEVER......and The Rock means EVER.....get that stench off it.....

”.....IF YAAAAAAA SEMLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.....WHAT THE ROCK.....IS......”

.....hold that thought.....or don’t.....because before he can finish up his catchprase he gets taken out from behind by a charging Jipp....erm, sorry.....by a charging JPL.....

.....the Rock’s words have been getting increasingly under the skin of Levesque, who SHOULD be concentrating on his upcoming match instead of expelling his energy here.....but while JPL has (up until now) been happy to allow others to do most of the physical punishment for him, it seems as though he’s finally had enough, beating Rocky down to the concrete floor and stomping on the back of his head.....

.....Levesque drops down to one knee and grabs the front of the Rock’s silk shirt with one hand, while arrogantly grabbing him by the face with his other hand.....

.....he tells Rocky that he’s done nothing but run his mouth since he arrived here in WCW, and Levesque has tolerated it because Rock has had the common sense to stay out of his way.....

”.....but you had to poke the bear didn’t you funny man.....you had to entertain the ‘people’.....what you should have realised is that you set the bar too low.....these people are morons.....they’re so stupid that they’re entertained by roadkill and confused every time the sun ‘goes away’ at night.....just watch.....I’m about to stomp your smart mouth into this floor here, and they’ll STILL be entertained.....”

.....and that’s exactly what Levesque does, stomping on the Rock until it looks like he’ll be staying down for a while.....

.....only when he’s satisfied does Levesque relent, before dusting himself off and smiling at Mike Tenay.....he tells the Professor that he might want to get some help for the Great One.....JPL would love to stick around and lend a hand, but he’s got a United States Championship to win just about now.....

”.....something that Mr. Funny Man here wasn’t man enough to do.....I’ll see you around Mike.....”

.....and it’s a bit of an odd match, I’m not going to lie.....

.....I mean, from an in ring perspective this had the potential to be one of the best matches on the card.....Eddie Guerrero is one of the best performers that WCW has to offer, and while JPL is no slouch himself, he certainly benefits from working alongside someone like Guerrero who knows how to pace the match to perfection.....

.....unfortunately both men are heels (granted, JPL more so) and proper heels at that.....the crowd loves to boo them, which made for a bit of an awkward dynamic.....

.....there’s not actually that much heat between the two men either.....JPL really only challenged for the US Title in the first place because Shawn Michaels thought it would be funny to p!ss everyone off.....in fact (as we saw a few moments ago) Levesque has been more focused on The Rock than on Guerrero, while Guerrero, well.....he’s been more focused on costing Bill Goldberg the Television Title than he has been on his upcoming match with JPL.....

.....the Papi of Perfection has taken umbrage with the attention that the rookie’s undefeated streak has garnered, believing his own streak (of retaining the US Title for the last seven months) be all the more impressive.....which may be true, was it not for the fact that Guerrero actually LOST several of those Title defences, just never by pinfall.....he’s going to be hard pressed to overcome the odds of a determined Jean Paul Levesque tonight though.....

.....although Eddie DOES have his nephew Chavo in his corner.....

.....and a p!ssed off Rock who comes rushing down the aisle ready to strike.....

.....Chavo does a great job of distracting the attention of the official when he notices Rocky making his way out and as The Rock climbs into the ring behind Levesque, Guerrero stands back and allows the Great One to get his payback.....

.....Tony Schiavone finds it most satisfying to see Levesque get his comeuppance, stating that he (and Michaels) have been going around running their mouths and cheapshotting people for months.....but Heenan isn’t so amused.....he says that yeah, JPL attacked The Rock in the back.....

”.....but he did it IN THE BACK.....he didn’t come out during Rock’s match with Curt Hennig earlier this evening.....he didn’t potentially cost him a match.....a title.....this is just poor sportsmanship Tony Schiavone.....”

.....be that as it may, it is what it is.....and what it is, is a beat down punctuated by a Rock Bottom right in the middle of the ring.....

.....Eddie sees the opportunity and heads up top (as the Rock bails to the floor) flying off and landing with a perfect Frog Splash right in the middle.....

.....and three seconds later, the streak continues.....

.....Levesque rolls to the outside where Rocky meets him, as the two men exchange blows right there at ringside.....they attempt to batter each other into ring steps, safety rails and steel posts, before finally brawling all the way to the back and disappearing out of sight.....

.....as a smirking Eddie Guerrero grabs a microphone.....

.....cue the music.....

.....and the crowd erupting.....

.....as the Turnertron flickers to life, to see the menacing sight of Bill Goldberg marching his way through the backstage area.....

.....Eddie and Chavo don’t look pleased to see the snarling rookie.....in fact, you could argue that they look positively terrified as Chavo runs to the outside to collect a pair of steel chairs.....after all, its been those steel chairs that have kept Goldberg out of action these past few weeks.....

.....Goldberg continues his march through the back, where he is initially challenged by Doug Dillinger’s crack team of security.....I say initially, because every man that meets him gets tossed violently to one side, until eventually they just stop trying and let him pass.....

.....and when he parts the curtain and enters the arena, the crowd REALLY erupts......

.....Goldberg charges down the aisle, where the nervous Guerrero’s are waiting with steel chairs in hand.....a steel chair that Chavo swings as Goldberg climbs into the ring, but the undefeated rookie ducks the shot, rebounds off the ropes.....and Spears Chavo right out of his boots.....

.....Eddie isn’t sticking around for a taste of that, bailing so quickly that he even leaves his precious US Title behind in his eagerness to escape the wrath of Goldberg.....a fact not lost on the rookie, who picks up the championship AND the discarded microphone.....and as Guerrero retreats quickly up the aisle way, Goldberg has four words for him.....

.....everyone is looking for them.....I found them.....now I am going to get those answers, exclusively for you, the WCW audience.....”

.....Gene knocks loudly in the door, calling out the name of each Trinity member in turn, before reaching out and trying the handle.....

.....to be fair, how long did you want a match that featured IRS in 1998?.....

.....the match wasn’t actually that bad considering some of the participants.....Missy Hyatt and Jimmy Hart did their fair share on the outside to keep the crowd entertained too, because those two have certainly had their fair share of problems in recent weeks.....

.....this whole match stemmed from Konnan turning down Jimmy Hart’s offer to join his first family but it’s young Jeff Hardy that (briefly.....like I say, short match) plays the face in peril, before finally tagging out to Gideon Cain who clears house.....

.....the first family eventually regroup and storm the ring, only for Konnan, Hardy and Awesome to get in on the action too, as a full scale brawl breaks out.....the Faces of Fear break off to scrap with Awesome and Cain, while Hardy and Morrus go at it.....

.....that just leaves Konnan and Wallstreet inside the ring, and it’s Konnan that drinks the match to a close, locking the First Family member up in the Tequila Sunrise.....and with everyone else preoccupied (including Jimmy and Missy) Wallstreet has little option but to submit, right there in the middle of the ring.....

”.....Shawn Michaels?.....what in the world are you doing here?.....”

.....Michaels just smiles as he exits the room, closing the door behind him, telling Mean Gene that he’s Shawn Michaels.....Mr. Wrestling.....and he goes wherever the hell he wants.....

.....Gene says that Randy Savage was in that room earlier this evening, now Shawn Michaels? It would seem like everyone is vying for the services of the Totally Awesome Trinity.....

”.....let me stop you right there little man.....first of all, Shawn Michaels needs help from absolutely nobody.....particularly when it comes to the so-called ‘competition’ here in “dubbya see dubbya”.....what Shawn Michaels is doing, is simply making sure that history doesn’t repeat itself.....

WCW Championship #1 Contenders: Caged Heat Match

.....so here we are.....and while this match looks suspiciously like the Hell in a Cell match that he WWF put on back in October, it’s definitely NOT a Hell in a Cell match, no, no, no......this is Caged Heat.....and the winner (survivor?) of this one will be the new #1 Contender for the WCW Champion, challenging either Sting or the Warrior (depending on who walks out tonight with the gold) at next months Uncensored event.....

.....the two competitors make their way out and much as Eric Bischoff promised when booking this match a few weeks back, the ring, under the ring, ringside area AND ringside workers are all checked to ensure that there are no signs of either JPL, the Titans of Wrestling, or anyone else that shouldn’t be out here.....

.....this is going to be Randy Savage vs. Shawn Michaels.....and with the cage lowered, completely surrounding the ringside area and with a roof on no less, it will be ONLY Randy Savage vs. Shawn Michaels, with no outside interference.....

.....the referee calls for the bell to get this one underway and considering the bad blood between these two men, they don’t bother with such formalities as a collar and elbow tie up.....no, they go straight to the brawling, charging across the ring and meeting each other with an exchange of punches to the face.....Michaels gets the better of the exchange initially but Savage puts a stop to his offence with a back elbow right to the jaw, before tossing his opponent right over the top rope and down to the floor.....

.....that doesn’t keep Shawn down for long though and as Savage catches his breath ‘Mr. Wrestling’ rolls right back into the ring and continues to hammer the Macho Man with blows.....Michaels has Savage rocking but his eagerness costs him when he charges at his opponent, with Randy catching him with a HIGH back body drop that again sends Michaels over the top and down to the floor, only this time with such force that he collides with the wall of the cell on his landing......

.....this time Savage doesn’t waste time recuperating, instead he mounts the top rope and leaps to the outside, nailing Michaels with a huge Double Ax-Handle, before picking him right back up and bouncing him off that unforgiving steel cell.....

.....the two men continue to brawl on the outside, exchanging cell shots as they both taste the steel, before Shawn retreats to the relative safety of the ring, timing it perfectly and nailing Macho with a swinging neck breaker as he re-enters the ring himself.....

.....Shawn takes control briefly, working over his opponent between the ropes, before giving Savage a little taste of his own medicine as he clothesline’s Macho right over the top and to the floor below.....Michaels comes off the apron with a flying forearm type move that sends Macho crashing back first into the steel wall.....Macho looks to fight back and even tries to Irish whip Shawn into the cell.....unfortunately Michaels reverses that and sends Savage flying face first into the ring post, busting him wide open in the process, before grabbing his opponent by the head and grinding his bleeding flesh into that unforgiving steel mesh.....

.....like a shark smelling blood Shawn focuses his attack on the bloody head of the Macho Man, again sending him hard into the wall of the cell.....so hard in fact that even Bobby Heenan mentions how glad he is that WCW at least had the good sense to position the announce table way, way out of the way of ringside.....

.....Savage is bleeding like a stuck pig, but a bit of blood isn’t about to keep him down.....he cuts off Shawn’s offence with a good old fashioned low blow before Irish Whipping him so hard into the ring steps that the two piece set actually separates as Michaels crashes into it.....then Randy went searching underneath the ring, fishing out a number of steel chairs (one of which he smashes across the back of his opponent) before tossing them AND Shawn Michaels into the ring.....

.....you would think the brutality would die down a bit now (back inside the ring) but Savage keeps up the weapon based offence, using those steel chairs to his full advantage as he works over his opponent, before making the first cover of the match, getting a close two-count for his efforts.....

.....Savage wipes the blood from his eyes and sets one of those steel chairs up in the middle of the ring and takes a seat to badmouth the downed Michaels, before dragging him back to his feet by the hair.....he took a little too long to gloat however and as he picks his opponent up, Michaels is able to catch hold of the Macho Man and drop him with a back suplex (reminiscent of his old Teardrop Suplex finisher) driving him right into that chair that Savage was sitting on a moment earlier.....

.....Savage rolls to the outside to catch a breather, but Michaels is right out after him.....he sends him first into the ring post, then the wall of the cell, before dragging him over to the two half’s of the steel steps.....Michaels hoists he top half of the steps up and slides it under the bottom rope and into the ring, before taking a stand on the lower portion of the steps that remain, setting Savage up for a piledriver to the steel.....fortunately for Randy he was able to backdrop out of that, leaving Shawn to land with a huge splat on the floor behind him.....

.....back inside the ring and Savage again goes on the attack with a chair, nailing Michaels right between the eyes for another near fall.....Macho with an Irish Whip but Michaels ducks the clothesline attempt and runs the ropes some more before levelling Randy with the flying forearm, kipping up for good measure (with a cocky expression on his face) and then backing up into the corner to start Tuning up the Band.....

.....the announcers declare that with Savage already busted wide open, this one will be all over if Michaels can hit the Sweet Chin Music.....but as he let’s fly, Macho is able to catch the foot.....

.....and then kicks Michaels right in the balls for good measure.....

.....Michaels goes down and Savage picks up those steel steps that Shawn slid into the ring earlier, holding them up at head height before using them as a battering ram, slamming it hard between the eyes of his opponent when he finally gets to his feet.....

.....and now Michaels is busted open.....

.....WIDE open.....

.....both men are bloody but the Macho Man can taste victory, tossing the bleeding Shawn Michaels to the outside, where he sends him flying face first into the cell a number of times.....Michaels swings blindly at Macho but misses by a mile.....he tries a kick but Savage again catches the leg.....no low blow this time, but he does sweep Shawn‘s other leg out from under him, before catapulting him face first into the steel again, then grinds the skull against the wall of the cell for good measure.....

.....Savage rolls Michaels back into the ring and then scales to the top rope, pointing high into the air as he signals for the Elbow Drop.....he doesn’t get chance to connect though, as Shawn rolls away and out of range before Randy can fly, so Macho simply drops back to the mat and crashes a chair across the back of his opponent, before scaling the top rope again.....

.....again he doesn’t get to hit the elbow though.....because again Michaels rolls out of range, before pulling his bloody body back to its feet using the ropes, telling Savage to “Suck It” as he does.....

.....Savage drops to the mat and grabs hold of Michaels, locking on a sleeper hold (with Bobby Heenan remarking that Shawn Michaels won’t be able to avoid the Elbow Drop if he’s put to sleep) but with Savage still holding onto the sleeper, Shawn charges towards the turnbuckles, dropping down at the last second so that Randy’s bloody face connects with the corner, breaking the hold.....

.....Shawn rolls to the outside and reaches under the ring, pulling out some ladders with a weary smile.....back in the ring and he rushes the Macho Man, nailing him right between the eyes with the top of the ladders, before propping them up in the corner and Irish Whipping his opponent right into them with such force that Savage bumps right over the top rope and down to the floor.....

.....the two men exchange punches on the outside, before Savage catches the upper hand by driving his opponent face first into the cage.....Savage reaches under the ring himself now, this time pulling out a table which he sets up right out there on the floor.....

.....he rolls Shawn on top of the wooden structure, before heading up to the top (seemingly with ambitions of hitting that Elbow Drop finally) but again Michaels rolls to safety, leaving Savage to hit another Ax Handle from the top all the way down to the floor when he stands.....

.....the two get back into the ring where they exchange offensive moves briefly, before spilling back to the outside again, where Michaels finally gets the better of the brawl, smashing Macho between the eyes with a steel chair with such force that Savage stumbles backwards and lands perfectly on top of the table.....

.....Shawn climbs up onto the apron, looking to drive Savage through the wood, but stops to look at the turnbuckles.....he shakes his head no indicating that the apron just won’t cut it, before climbing up to the top rope.....looks like he’s going to try and do what Savage couldn’t a moment ago.....

.....then he pauses again.....

.....and looks at the ladder propped up against the opposite turnbuckles.....

.....then he smiles.....

.....drops to the mat.....

.....and sets that ladder up right there by the ropes.....

.....at Souled Out we saw Shawn Michaels send Randy Savage crashing through a wooden table, after nailing him with an elbow drop from half way up the Souled Out set.....tonight he climbs to the top of the ladder.....circles his finger around his temple in the universal “this is crazy” gesture.....

.....then leaps.....

.....from the top of the ladder, right down to the floor below.....

.....and drives himself through Randy Savage (and the table) with the biggest Elbow Drop you ever did see.....

.....the two men lay broken and bloody among the splinters of the destroyed table.....and they lay there for a while too.....in fact, had this been a standard match both men would have been counted out about a minute ago.....

.....obviously this isn’t a standard match though.....and eventually a bloody Shawn Michaels drags an equally bloody Randy Savage to his feet, rolling him (with great effort) into the ring, where he makes the cover and gets the nearest near fall of the match.....

.....both men are utterly spent now.....blood loss and exhaustion means that there can’t be much left in either man.....there’s still a lot of hatred there though.....and as the pair pull themselves up to a kneeling position they begin exchanging blows right there on their knees.....

.....remarkably (considering he’s just gotten driven through a table from a man leaping from about fifteen feet above him on a ladder) it’s Savage that gets the upper hand in this mini brawl, finally knocking Shawn backwards with one final blow that folds the man in half.....

.....sensing victory, Macho nails Shawn right between the eyes one more time, before dragging those ring-steps over and body slamming his opponent right on top of it.....

.....Savage has been looking for the Flying Elbow Drop for most of the match now and as he heads up top, it looks like he’s going to try it again.....

.....with Shawn Michaels still laid on top of those steel steps.....

.....Savage scales the turnbuckles and points up high in the air, before looking down at the prone Michaels with a smirk, before finally leaping, looking to end this once and for all......

.....except (for the third time this evening) Shawn Michaels rolls out of range.....and after already getting driven through a wooden table, now Randy Savage crashes down hard onto those steel ring steps, driving the wind completely out of him.....

.....and as he slowly pulls himself to his feet, he’s met in the middle of the ring by Shawn Michaels.....

.....with some Sweet Chin Music.....

.....Savage crumples to the mat.....Shawn collapses (out of sheer exhaustion, not by design) on top of him, as the official quickly drops to the mat and counts one, two, three.....

.....Shawn Michaels just won this thing.....

.....but he might not even know it......

Winner: Shawn Michaels
Rating: A

.....both men are utterly spent.....utterly broken.....and utterly covered with blood as the cage rises to allow access to the medical team that these two men desperately need....

.....medical personnel aren’t the only people to make their way out though.....because (in their first appearance on camera this evening) so do the Totally Awesome Trinity.....

.....the three men make their way down the aisle as the announcers question why exactly they are out here.....both Shawn Michaels and Randy Savage we’re seen leaving their locker room at separate points during the show, but the match is over.....they’re clearly not here to help anybody win.....

.....the Trinity finally climb into the ring (avoiding the broken tables, the ladder, the discarded chairs and ring steps) and come to a halt standing over both Michaels AND Savage.....both of whom are still down, bloody and very much out of it.....

.....they pause for a moment, before Copeland nods at Traylor.....and Big Ray-Ray roughly drags Shawn Michaels to his feet.....

.....Tony Schiavone says that for all the bickering, all the dissension and in fighting, it would seem that the Totally Awesome Trinity are still Totally Titans of Wrestling.....and after the war he has just gone through, can Shawn Michaels body take any more abuse?.....

.....but instead of abuse, Copeland and Cage both stand on either side of Mr. Wrestling.....and each raise one of Shawn’s arms in victory, before they each hook that arm over their shoulder and (as Traylor holds the ropes open) they help Shawn Michaels out of the ring and up the aisle, leaving Randy Savage still down on the mat.....

.....they’re about three quarters the way up the aisle (with Shawn’s arms still draped over their shoulders for support) when Buff Bagwell comes rushing out from the locker rooms.....

.....he gets right in Copeland and Cages faces, demanding to know just what in the hell they think their doing, but Traylor grabs him by the throat and shoves him down, leaving the rest of the Trinity a clear path in which to make their exit.....and exit they do.....disappearing to the locker rooms as a shocked Buff Bagwell checks on Randy Savage.....

.....I guess whatever it was Shawn Michaels discussed with them earlier, it worked.....I don’t know WHAT was said, but when push came to shove tonight, the Totally Awesome Trinity helped Shawn Michaels to his feet and left their Titan brother bleeding on the mat.....

.....and if that wasn’t bad enough, the Titans are now 0-2 tonight.....

.....maybe the Warrior will have more success.....

.....let’s find out shall we.....

Rating: A*

.....because that FINALLY brings us to main event time, as former friends.....former partners collide.....and the Blade Runners explode with the WCW Championship is on the line.....

.....we run another lengthy recap promo while they raise the cell (and Buff Bagwell gets an irate Randy Savage backstage) highlighting everything that lead up to this match.....Sting’s reluctance to trust anyone after being betrayed one too many times.....the Warrior finally breaking him down and persuading Sting to join forces with him.....the inevitable betrayal, as Warrior turned his back on Sting to become a member of the Titans of Wrestling.....and the change.....the change in BOTH men.....both men’s colourful attires replaced with simple black and white.....Sting retreating to the rafters, both men’s refusals to speak, Warrior no longer sprinting to the ring like a madman....no rope shaking.....no ‘Owwww’ from Sting.....no expressions at all from either man.....

.....polar opposites, but eerily similar.....

....and now finally, six months on from the betrayal....they meet in the ring, for the richest prize in the sport.....

.....Michael Buffer makes the introductions as each man makes their methodical march to the ring and as the two emotionless face painted superstars stand nose to nose in the middle of the ring, we have one hell of a visual.....

....until Sting (perhaps in an effort to prove that the Warrior didn’t break him) let’s out one of those (rarely heard) now trademark screams.....and then punches Warrior in the face.....

.....and it’s on.....

.....truthfully, this was always going to struggle to follow Shawn Michaels and Randy Savage.....particularly Shawn Michaels and Randy Savage inside that steel cell.....but then we knew that.....we knew that, Sting knew that, the fans knew that.....I don’t think the Warrior knew that, because.....well.....he’s the Warrior.....but everyone else knew that.....never the less, this IS for the WCW Championship and is the first high profile meeting between these two men, so it keeps the main event spot.....

.....I mean, it wasn’t a horrible match.....we did keep it relatively short too (from a main event stand point) after all, we didn’t want our challenger blowing up now do we.....Warrior is known for a lot of things, but his stamina isn’t one of them.....

.....he IS known for his impressive physique though....and with that impressive physique comes a lot of strength and it’s that strength that he uses to maintain the advantage for a good portion of the match.....Sting may have been able to hang in the gym with Warrior back in the day, but that was a LONG time ago.....and today (while Sting is still no slouch when it comes to working out) he’s nowhere near is peak Blade Runner days in terms of bulk and the Warrior capitalises on that.....

.....he also capitalises on this guy too.....because while the Totally Awesome Trinity are obviously in the building, they clearly have no intention of aiding their Titan brothers tonight.....

.....so it’s Buff that has to pick up the slack.....

.....and after Sting and The Warrior sandwich the official as they attempt to clothesline each other, he makes his way out from the back.....and with the referee down, he grabs Sting’s own World Title and uses it to crack the champion in the back of the head, before rolling the Warrior on top of him.....

.....slowly the official recovers enough to crawl over and make the count.....fortunately for Sting, it took him that long to get there that our Champion had recovered just enough to get a shoulder up at the last possible second.....

.....perhaps sensing that the end was near, Warrior signals for the Gorilla Press.....and he does get the WCW Champion up.....

.....but he gets distracted by the arrival of the Totally Awesome Three, who make their way down to ringside.....are they there to help? Warrior doesn’t really look like he NEEDS help about now.....

.....although as he looks down at the Trinity (with Stimg still high overhead) he loses track of what he should be doing.....this gives Sting chance to wriggle free and land behind the Warrior.....

.....and then drive the back of the challengers skull into the mat with the Scorpion Death Drop.....

.....this time the official is a little quicker to get into position.....

.....this time we DO get a three count.....

.....as the WCW Championship stays firmly in the hand of Sting....AND in the hands of World Championship Wrestling.....

Winner: ....and Still WCW Champion.....Sting....
Rating: B+

Quote:

.....the official hands Sting the WCW Title, which he holds high in the air as he stands tall over the body of the fallen Warrior.....

.....seeing that the Trinity still haven’t left the ringside area, Sting rolls Warrior to the outside, where he lands right at the feet of Copeland, Cage and Traylor.....

.....the three men don’t move to help the Warrior up.....in fact, they don’t even look down at their fallen Titan brother.....instead they stare as one, right up at the man who’s holding the richest prize in the sport.....

.....Sting might have literally JUST wrestled a match, but he’s still got some fight left in him if the Trinity want a Totally Awesome Ass-Kicking, as he undrapes the WCW Title from over his shoulder and places it down on the mat, almost daring the Trinity to try and take it.....

.....they’re not here to take the title though.....

.....they’re just here to act as a distraction.....because (after being prompted by Cage to “Totally look behind you”) Sting turns around......

.....and gets kicked in the mouth with some Sweet Chin Music.....

.....a still bloody Shawn Michaels (replays show) has climbed over the safety rails and rolled into the ring behind Sting.....and with the Champion down, Mr. Wrestling nods at the Trinity, before picking up the WCW Title.....

.....he looks at the Big Gold Belt for a minute, before finally breaking out into a cocky smirk as he raises the title over HIS head.....

.....and the crowd boo the crap out him.....

.....Sting was victorious at SuperBrawl.....but at Uncensored.....Mr. WCW is going to have to go one on one with Mr. Wrestling.....

.....it’s going to be Sting vs. Shawn Michaels.....

.....for the WCW Championship.....

.....and as Tony Schiavone signs off on the sight of Shawn Michaels holding the gold high in the air in victory, he tells us that he prays to god that we don’t see this sight again at Uncensored.....

.....goodnight fans.....

Great Superbrawl. I've been more WWF than WCW (since we're on the road to Wrestlemania) recently, but you always deliver for these big shows.
