Whipper Spencer Marks Passes

CWL would like to send our condolences to the family of "Whipper" Spencer Marks, who passed away at 84 years of age. The Canadian grappler is most known for his time in the CWF where he and George DeColt, as the Calgary Wolverines, were the top tag team in Canada for almost two decades -- with four CWF National Tag Team Titles to their belt. Marks was also a three time California Pro Wrestling Champion and held the CWF National Championship on two occasions.

Week 1, May 2023.
Filmed at: Ellison’s [Hawaii, USA]
In Attendance: 4,168[SELL OUT]
Rating: 1.43 [1,073,250 viewers]
Commentators: Lee Bambino & Ricky Dale Johnson

LB: Hello and welcome to another exciting and thrill packed edition of Saturday Night Slammasters. We are back at Ellison’s in beautiful Hawaii. As always, I’m joined in the broadcast booth by legendary wrestler Ricky Dale Johnson. Tonight, we debut our new ninety minute format.

RDJ: And what a show it will be. Bunarukken Torii and Johnny Anderson will go one on one in our main event. KC Glenn defends the Television Championship against Syd Collier in what should be a fantastic technical match up.

LB: And we have two matches to determine two of the three teams that will do battle to crown the first ever North American Women’s Tag Team Champions.

RDJ: Plus, the Keith Brothers have scheduled time to issue a challenge and Ross Henry is scheduled to appear. This is a full format, Lee.

LB: It certainly is and we are ready to go ringside where our first Women’s Tag Title qualifier is about to begin.

Opening Match
Tag Team Match
Fifteen Minute Time Limit
Women’s Tag Title Qualifier

Ladies Night versus Donna Cook & Linda Crump

In a bout that had sub-par wrestling and little heat, Ladies Night defeated Donna Cook and Linda Crump in 9:58 when Danielle Sweetheart defeated Donna Cook by pinfall with a Super Kick.

Quote:

The Global Wrestling Council World Heavyweight Champion, Ross Henry, comes to the ring. He is fresh off his title defense against The Dragon, Mikey James, at the Oxford Invitational. Henry climbs into the ring and looks around at the crowd. He’s easily the most over babyface on the roster -- and has been doing a great job as World Champion, representing the CWL and the GWC with pride and honor.

RH: Mikey James put up a hell of a fight last week at the Oxford Invitational. I want to tell him that. I want to tell him that it was an honor sharing the ring with him and any time he’d like to run it back and go at me again, I will accept the challenge. I’ve tried very hard to make sure that I don’t back down from a single challenge as the World’s Heavyweight Champion. Any challenger, any company in GWC, I’ve tried to make sure I take on ---

Ross Henry is interupted by the familiar sounds of Spencer Spade’s “Hail to the King”. The former North American Heavyweight Champion comes out with Lisa Bowen. This is the first time we’ve seen Spencer Spade since Wrestling Summit VIII, when Riley McManus hit him with a Slingshot Suplex through a ladder.

SS: A fighting Champion… That’s what you are?

RH: That’s right. That’s exactly what I am.

SS: Well I like to hear that, because I’ve got my eyes on becoming World’s Heavyweight Champion. When I was laying in a hospital bed with broken ribs from that assault by Riley McManus -- an assault that was unprofessional and unsportsmanlike -- I realized that I was meant for bigger things. I was meant to represent the whole Global Wrestling Council. Not just Continental Wrestling League. I wasn’t just meant to be the face of professional wrestling, of sports entertainment, here in the United States. I was meant to be the face of it for the entire world… To do that -- I need the World’s Title. The title you have. So I’m officially challenging you, Ross Henry.

Ross Henry looks around at the crowd, who are begging him to accept the challenge.

RH: You want to go one on one with me? You want a chance at the World’s Title. Well, I don’t back down from a challenge. You’re on. At Fire on the Mountain, it’s going to be Ross Henry versus Spencer Spade for the World’s Heavyweight Championship!

Singles Match
Fifteen Minute Time Limit

Eddie Carter versus Sgt. Bison

In a bout that had decent wrestling but non-existent crowd heat, Sgt. Bison defeated Eddie Carter in 9:02 by pinfall with a Boosted Reaper Choke Slam.

Singles Match
Twenty Minute Time Limit

Syd Collier versus KC Glenn

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, KC Glenn defeated Syd Collier in 17:04 by pinfall with a Tune Up The Sunshine Band. KC Glenn makes defence number 4 of his CWL Television title.
-Alexander Vasquez was on color commentary for this match.

Quote:

After KC Glenn has defeated Syd Collier, Alexander Vasquez stands up at the announce table.

AV: KC...You’ve been doing a great job as Television Champion. Very admirable job, but I want an opportunity. They didn’t let me in the Television Title tournament. They’ve tried to hold me back, but I know you’re a fighting champion and I know that next week you will step into the ring with me….And then I will break you in half and I will become Television Champion.

Tag Team Match
Fifteen Minute Time Limit
Women’s Tag Team Title Qualifier

Tex-Mex versus Harriet Blais & Hellcat Hernandez

In a bout that had decent wrestling but little heat, Tex-Mex defeated Harriet Blais and Hellcat Hernandez in 11:20 when Houston Handley defeated Harriet Blais by pinfall with a Houston's Problem.

Harriet Blais carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.

Quote:

We go backstage to where Greg and Matthew Keith are standing in front of the CWL backdrop.

GK: Matthew and I are one of the best tag teams in the world. Everyone knows that. We are former World Tag Team Champions -- and we want to get there again. So we are officially challenging Cameron Vessey and Jeffery Aroma to a match at Fire on the Mountain for the World’s Tag Team Titles.

MK: So if Lisa Bowen thinks her men are up to it, we’ll see them in the ring.

Bunrakuken Torii versus Johnny Anderson w/ February Malaise

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Bunrakuken Torii defeated Johnny Anderson in 16:53 by pinfall with a Spinning Forearm Smash.

Commentators: Lee Bambino & Ricky Dale Johnson

LB: Hello and welcome to another exciting and thrill packed edition of Saturday Night Slammasters. We are coming to you from the Den tonight in New England and what a night of action we have for you. Ricky Dale Johnson and I will be at the booth the whole show. In our main event, “The Butcher” Alexander Vasquez will challenge KC Glenn for the Television Championship.

RDJ: KC Glenn has made four successful defenses of the championship so far. He’s been a fighting champion, but Alexander Vasquez is incredibly motivated. He wants the opportunity to have championship gold. He wants to be recognized for as good of a professional wrestler as he believes he is and he believes that a win over KC Glenn will catapult him into that next level.

LB: He’s not wrong. It should be an excellent match up. Also on the schedule for tonight, as announced on CWL.com, the Diaz Cousins defend the North American Tag Team Championship against The Heartbreak Express and so much more. Let’s not waste any time!

LB: Hello and welcome to another exciting and thrill packed edition of Saturday Night Slammasters. We are coming to you from the Gorski Ballroom were almost four thousand fans have crammed into the building to see the best professional wrestling action in the United States. I’m joined in the broadcast booth by the legend, Ricky Dale Johnson. Ricky, our main event tonight is a blockbuster match up -- The Dragon Mikey James and Ash Campbell going one on one.

RDJ: This should be an excellent match up. Ash Campbell came up short in his attempt to win the North American Heavyweight Championship at the Oxford Invitational and Mikey James came up short in his attempt to win the World’s Heavyweight Title. This match up should provide both men the opportunity to get a victory and get some positive momentum back.
