I was beyond shocked to see the Diaz Cousins lose to American Muscle already, but reading about the PGHW developments later on put things into perspective. Now I fully expect a narrative about following in the footsteps of "The Monster" Raymond Diaz!

Main Event
Steel Cage
Loser Leaves CWL For 60 Days
"The Boss" Ross Henry versus "The Supreme Star" Spencer Spade w/ Lisa Bowen
It's 60 days, not for good, so I'm guessing neither man is leaving for another company. Spade would probably go shoot a movie, but 60 days feels short for that, so I'm guessing Primus took an MMA fight

Halloween Horrors Match
Each Wrestler Can Bring One Weapon To The Ring -- Only Those Weapons Are Legal
"The Evolution" Primus Allen, Matty Faith, & "The Juice" OJ Morris versus The Fallen w/ Father Grim
OJ has to start strong. Guessing Father Grimm gets taken out, which throws the Fallen off to take the loss and justify them wanting revenge to further the storyline

Grudge Match
Singles Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
"The Headhunter" Jeffery Aroma versus Ash Campbell w/ Lisa Bowen
Probably time for Jeff to get some revenge

Tag Team Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
North American Tag Team Championship
The Cummos versus The Devil's Rejects (c) w/ February Malaise
Feel like the Cummos have been getting a serious push lately, could see them winning the titles here

Singles Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
North American Women's Championship
"Red Hot" Laura Flame versus Alicia Strong (c) w/ Lisa Bowen
DO IT!

Grudge Match
Tag Team Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
Georgia Bulldogs versus C-V-2 w/ Lisa Bowen
Probably Bowen's silver lining, as I have the rest of her clients losing

Singles Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
GWC World Junior Heavyweight Championship
"The Butcher" Alexander Vasquez versus "The Dragon" Mikey James
Very interesting matchup. I'm guessing Mikey is the more likely candidate, but I really, really wish you go with pushing the homegrown talent, especially given the career trajectory of Vasquez after his first unspectacular run in the main roster and some time in Texas

Opening Match
Tag Team Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
North American Women's Tag Team Championship
Alicia Strong & Brooke Tyler w/ Lisa Bowen versus Amber Allen & Jaime Quine (c)
Two of the newly signed ladies show up afterwards to attack and build themselves up to a future challenge

Main Event
Singles Match
No Time Limit
Steel Cage
Loser Leaves CWL For 60 Days
"The Boss" Ross Henry versus "The Supreme Star" Spencer Spade w/ Lisa Bowen
Comments: Spade needs to keep the heat up and carry Bowen for a bit, but Henry can disappear and step right back in without much of an issue. I thought about having this be the split up of Spade and Bowen, but he is such a big name for you, he needs to hang around and make Bowen more important.

Semi Main Event
Six Man Tag
Forty-Five Minute Time Limit
Halloween Horrors Match
Each Wrestler Can Bring One Weapon To The Ring -- Only Those Weapons Are Legal
"The Evolution" Primus Allen, Matty Faith, & "The Juice" OJ Morris versus The Fallen w/ Father Grim

Comments: The odd pairing of those three make it seem like a good way to get The Fallen a big win, but I feel for Faith. Man has done it as a tag competitor, and now as a singles guy, but he can't catch momentum...

Grudge Match
Singles Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
"The Headhunter" Jeffery Aroma versus Ash Campbell w/ Lisa Bowen

Comments: I think Ash can be a big name if you make him into Spade-lite. Aroma is a good hand, but he has midcard gatekeeper written all over him.

Tag Team Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
North American Tag Team Championship
The Cummos versus The Devil's Rejects (c) w/ February Malaise

Comments: The Cummos have returned with a vengeance. This is a good spot for them to capitalize on the rise and reestablish a handful of the old tag teams.

Singles Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
North American Women's Championship
"Red Hot" Laura Flame versus Alicia Strong (c) w/ Lisa Bowen

Comments: You love you some Alicia...

Grudge Match

Comments: Its a sentimental pick, but Bowen can't sweep her matches.

Singles Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
GWC World Junior Heavyweight Championship
"The Butcher" Alexander Vasquez versus "The Dragon" Mikey James

Comments: Unless James is on a major decline, he has to be one of the better junior guys in the world. I like Vasquez, but he is not on The Dragon's level.

Opening Match
Tag Team Match
Thirty Minute Time Limit
North American Women's Tag Team Championship
Alicia Strong & Brooke Tyler w/ Lisa Bowen versus Amber Allen & Jaime Quine (c)

Comments: Don't make Alicia a double champ.

Default Halloween Throwdown '23

Broadcast On Pay Per View Exclusively by MySelectUSA
Saturday Week 4, October 2023.
Held At: Centerpiece Bridge [Mid Atlantic, USA]
In Attendance: 4,523
Buy Rate: .15 [79,962 buys]
Commentators: Lee Bambino & Ricky Dale Johnson

LB: Hello and welcome to Halloween Throwdown. For the first time ever, we are bringing you this pay per view from the Mid Atlantic area and the beautiful Centerpiece Bridge. We want to thank our Pay Per View Provider MySelectUSA for their continued support of the Continental Wrestling League’s vision for professional wrestling. Tonight, Ross Henry and Spencer Spade look to settle their longstanding rivalry as they step into the most destructive force in professional wrestling -- the steel cage. The loser must leave CWL for sixty days.

RDJ: That’s a mega stipulation, Lee. That’s sixty days that a man doesn’t get paid. That’s sixty days where you’re not in the ring keeping your skill set sharp. That’s sixty days where you are off and falling behind your peers in title chases. Tonight, someone is going to step ahead clearly. I can’t wait to find out who it is.

LB: Let’s not forget the Halloween Horrors match up. A six man tag. All six men are bringing their own weapon to the battle. There are no tags -- it is a tornado style match up. The North American Heavyweight Champion, Torment is teaming for the first time with his new partners in the Fallen, Moloch and The Acolyte against the United States Champion Primus Allen and his two partners Matty Faith and OJ Morris. Six men who all bring something different to the table. What do you think is going to happen in that?

RDJ: I think careers are going to be shortened. I think bodies are going to be broken. I think it’s going to bloody and vicious and one of those matches that people keep coming back to.

Georgia Bulldogs versus C-V-2 w/ Lisa Bowen

In a bout that had superb wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, C-V-2 defeated Georgia Bulldogs in 12:07 when Cameron Vessey defeated KC Glenn by pinfall with a Flying V after Lisa Bowen interfered.

Father Grim is surrounded by darkness and the occasionally illuminated faces of his charges. He says nothing. It’s just a long moment of eerie silence with the faces of Torment, Moloch and The Acolyte coming into view.

FG: Your reckoning is here.

"Red Hot" Laura Flame versus Alicia Strong (c) w/ Lisa Bowen

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Alicia Strong defeated Laura Flame in 11:56 by pinfall with a Strong Arm Tactic. Alicia Strong makes defence number 2 of her CWL Women's title.

Tag Team Match

The Cummos versus The Devil's Rejects (c) w/ February Malaise

In a bout that had good wrestling but little heat, The Devil's Rejects defeated The Cummos in 13:09 when Johnny Anderson defeated Kurt Cummo by pinfall with a handful of tights. The Devil's Rejects make defence number 1 of their CWL Tag Team titles.

Kurt Cummo was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Ross Henry is backstage. He cuts a promo hyping his upcoming steel cage match with Spencer Spade. He promises that tonight is going to be the night that he finally pins Spencer’s shoulders to the mat. As an added plus, he will send Spencer Spade packing and he will be out of the CWL for sixty days after this.

"The Evolution" Primus Allen, Matty Faith, & "The Juice" OJ Morris versus The Fallen w/ Father Grim

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Matty Faith, Primus Allen and O.J. Morris defeated The Fallen (Torment, Moloch and The Acolyte) in a 3 vs 3 - Halloween Horror match in 21:05 when Matty Faith defeated The Acolyte by pinfall with a Leap Of Faith.

This match also saw Matty Faith and Torment take a crazy bump when Torment hit Faith with a Running Powerbomb off the ring apron and through the hard-camera side guardrail.

Moloch was the weak link, struggling to keep up with everyone else's in-ring performance.

Quote:

Spencer Spade and Lisa Bowen are backstage. They are only moments away from the main event, Spade versus Henry. Spencer lets the world know that he blames Ross Henry for why he’s not World Heavyweight Champion. It is Ross’ fault and tonight Spencer gets revenge for what Ross took from him.

New Fallen are killing Torments heat.

He won’t have a long run as CWL champion if this continues.

Figured Spencer was filming a movie or something and was going to take the fall.

Ross can basically carry the company though if needed.

Spencer has a knee injury that he picked up when he lost the GWC World title in Europe -- so the sixty days off gives him time to heal (he could work through it, by I generally don't like to have people work through most injuries).

Torment and the Fallen will be just fine. They had to eat the loss here for the next set of things for the company.

I do the same with my workers who are injured but could work through it.

It's fun to see Torment, who came in as the third wheel (who couldn't yet wrestle) next to Scythe and Hellion, now lead the group helping build up the Acolyte and Moloch.

Vasquez losing kinda makes sense, I guess, as does Flame losing to Strong, even if I'm biased against Alicia. Thought the Cummos could do it, but if Kurt is so behind it might be a bit too soon.

It is fun to see the role for Torment switch and evolve. He's a very solid wrestler now -- especially for a guy his size. He'll never be confused for Sam Keith or Dan Stone Jr, but he's getting the job done.

Vasquez' loss was not the end of his program with Mikey -- as I am hoping to build Vasquez into a more internationally known Junior Heavyweight. I know you hate Alicia, but there's something developing there too. I'm very high on Laura Flame right now.

So the tag division is a very interesting division right now. I like to switch the tag belts semi frequently -- as I tend to have good solid Heavyweight title reigns and what not, so I like to let the tag title be extra competitive, but I also know the specific match I want to get to -- specifically a match at Thanksgiving Thunder that will become apparent/be announced soon.

Wasn’t talking about the booking.

They grade horribly and one of them apparently can’t work. A wrestler appearing in too many segments which are very below his popularity hurts his pop slightly and it used to really hurt momentum but I think that changed in this version.

They both can work -- The Acolyte especially. Moloch is still green, but it's also how you get better. I'm not a national company, I'm limited on what I can do financially in order to not blow the money we are making each month.

I stood with my back to the door. The view out of my window was beautiful The Denver skyline. Mountains in the distance. Their peaks kissing the low clouds. I took a long sip from the highball glass in my hand. I usually did not drink at the office. I kept the bottle for those rare occasions that called for significant celebration or significant mourning. This was the latter. This was the kind of day they warn promoters about. When a talent breaks your heart. I let the firewater do its magic.

“You okay?” Ricky’s voice prodded for an answer. He’d known me for a long time. Twenty-seven years, actually. Well, maybe a little longer, but our friendship began in December of 1996 when we were on J.K. Stallings initial roster for HGC’s first show. We had a lot in common. A love of John Wayne movies. The great outdoors and the history of the American West. Now here he was, the Vice President of Talent Relations for my company. He was my color commentator. He was the lead trainer of the Rocky Mountain School of Wrestling.

“I’m pissed,” I told him the truth. He deserved that. “How did we lose both Diaz cousins? Both, Ricky.”

“They wanted to go to Japan.” He replied. It wasn’t his fault. Deep down, I knew that. I knew in the logical part of my brain that the Diaz Cousins turned down offers to work for us in order to work tours of our supposed ally, PGHW. “I offered them good deals. They turned them down. I tried again after they had accepted Mushashibo’s offer. They told me they were going to leave when their contracts were up.”

I nodded and drained the rest of my glass. I was tempted to throw it against the wall. I was tempted to let my anger out on the innocent wall. It would feel good. It would be therapeutic. It would also be unnecessary. “I can’t believe it.”

Ricky moved his Stetson around in his fingers. Letting the hat spin between his fingers. “I can’t either. I really thought for sure they were going to stay. Especially James.”

“Especially James.” I agreed. Logan had left once before to go to Burning Hammer. He seemed to have his heart set on following in his Uncle’s footsteps. He seemed to have his heart set on becoming a top gaijin star in Japan. James; however, had spent his entire career with me. He was only a four-year pro, still only twenty-two years of age. He was young, but he had not shown any real desire to follow fully in his father’s footsteps. He’d done some tours for BCG and some previous tours for PGHW, but I did not believe he would leave the CWL, would leave us...Would leave me… But I was wrong.

James and Logan had left. Gone to pastures they hoped were greener than what they had with me. I had made each of them North American Champion. They each had multiple reigns with the Tag Team Titles. I had made them World Six Man and then World Tag Team Champions. They had each one the Gold Rush tournament. Now they were based full time in Japan for Yoshimi. He was going to hear from me. He signed two of my talents, right out from under me. Two of my big heel stars. We were supposed to be in an alliance with one another. We were supposed to be on the same page. This was an offence that would have to be answered.

I turned towards Ricky. “We move on. We lost them. It is what it is, now.” Ricky nodded his head and that was that.

Not quite understanding, if they offered them Touring contracts this wouldn’t affect your ability to renegotiate with them.

So did Pride offer them written despite the alliance or what?
